History

The Botany Department of BKM Science College, Valsad is one of the oldest intermediate departments in the state of Gujarat in which the course in Botany at the undergraduate level is started in the year 1966 while the postgraduate level course is started in the year 2001.

The Department of Botany has grown about 550 different varieties of plants in an area of four acres. Our Botanical Garden looks green all year round so the number of visitors is so high throughout the year. The garden also has a small pond for aquatic plant preservation in which various types of aquatic plants have been preserved. At the same time, some endangered plants in the garden have been planted and saved. Not only that, the plants of such plants are prepared and distributed among interested organizations and individuals so

that such plants are preserved in our area. The department has developed a herbarium house and at the same time started a self-study center so that the students of the department can do botanical study on their own in their free time. About 2000 herbarium

specimens have been maintained in the Herbarium House.

Every year throughout the year, a work school is organized for the devotees living in the tribal area with the financial help of the government to explain to them how to save the medicinal plants of the forest area.

Throughout the year, students and plant lovers from various schools and colleges across the city of Valsad come to see our Botanical Gardens.

We also run a six-month certificate course in Plant Growing and Herbal Kitchen Garden as well one-week Beekeeping Certificate Course for our students and Arranged Bridge Course for Botany Subject (One Week).
